MgO brick

The MgO Brick is a premium high-purity magnesia refractory designed for demanding steelmaking and industrial applications requiring exceptional slag resistance and high-temperature performance. Available in nine grades with MgO content from 91% to 97.5%, these magnesia bricks deliver superior performance in electric arc furnace linings, steel ladle linings, and basic oxygen furnaces. With bulk density up to 3.02 g/cm³, low apparent porosity of 16-18%, and refractoriness under load up to 1700°C, Cavalry offers these MgO bricks for steel plants and industrial facilities seeking reliable high-performance refractory solutions with excellent corrosion resistance.

Description

The MgO Brick represents the fundamental high-performance refractory solution for steelmaking applications requiring exceptional slag resistance and high-temperature stability. Cavalry understands that modern steel production demands refractories that withstand extreme temperatures, aggressive basic slag attack, and mechanical stress. These magnesia bricks address these challenges through high-purity compositions and precise manufacturing processes.

High-purity magnesia bricks are widely recognized as the premier refractory material for basic steelmaking applications. The high MgO content provides outstanding resistance to basic slag attack, making these bricks essential for electric arc furnace linings, ladle linings, and basic oxygen furnace applications. The low impurity levels, particularly silica (SiO₂) and calcium oxide (CaO), ensure consistent refractory performance by reducing the formation of low-melting phases that can compromise high-temperature properties.

The nine available grades provide exceptional flexibility for different operational requirements. The ZMZ-98A and ZMZ-98B grades with 97.3-97.5% MgO and SiO₂ ≤0.6% represent the highest purity for demanding applications requiring maximum slag resistance and high-temperature capability. The ZMZ-97A and ZMZ-97B grades with 96.5-97% MgO offer excellent performance for standard applications. The ZMZ-96 and ZMZ-95 grades provide balanced performance for general use. The ZMZ-92 and ZMZ-91 grades offer economical options for less demanding applications.

The physical properties are impressive across the product range. Apparent porosity of 16-18% provides dense structures for corrosion protection. Bulk density ranges from 2.9 to 3.02 g/cm³, with high-density grades providing maximum corrosion resistance. Cold crushing strength of 55-65 MPa ensures excellent structural integrity. The refractoriness under load of 1550-1700°C demonstrates high-temperature capability. The controlled impurity levels ensure consistent refractory performance and extended service life.

Product highlights

Nine Grade Options for Comprehensive Application Coverage
The MgO brick range includes nine grades with MgO content from 91% to 97.5%, allowing selection of optimal purity for specific applications. ZMZ-98A/B provide highest purity for demanding steelmaking, ZMZ-97A/B for standard applications, ZMZ-96/95 for general use, and ZMZ-92/91 for economical solutions.

Exceptional Slag Resistance
High-purity magnesia provides outstanding resistance to basic slag attack in steelmaking applications. The high MgO content resists dissolution in aggressive basic slags. This exceptional slag resistance extends service life and reduces maintenance frequency.

Very High Bulk Density for Corrosion Protection
Bulk density ranges from 2.9 to 3.02 g/cm³, with high-density grades providing maximum corrosion protection. ZMZ-98A achieves 3.02 g/cm³ for the most demanding applications. The dense structure significantly reduces slag penetration.

Low Apparent Porosity
Apparent porosity of 16-18% provides dense structures that resist slag penetration effectively. Lower porosity grades offer maximum corrosion protection. The dense structure reduces pathways for corrosive slag penetration.

Excellent Cold Crushing Strength
Cold crushing strength of 55-65 MPa provides excellent structural integrity during installation and service. Higher purity grades achieve 65 MPa for maximum mechanical strength. The high strength provides reliable handling characteristics.

High Refractoriness Under Load
Refractoriness under load of 1550-1700°C demonstrates the high-temperature capability of these refractories. ZMZ-98A/B achieve 1700°C for maximum thermal stability. The high refractoriness ensures dimensional stability at extreme steelmaking temperatures.

Tight Impurity Control
Impurities are tightly controlled with SiO₂ ≤0.6-5% and CaO ≤1-3% across the grade range. The low impurities ensure high purity and consistent refractory performance. The high purity contributes to improved slag resistance.

Proven Performance in Steelmaking
MgO bricks have demonstrated reliable performance in electric arc furnaces, steel ladles, and basic oxygen furnaces worldwide. The proven track record provides confidence in performance and service life.

Application Scenarios

Electric Arc Furnace Linings
The MgO brick serves as a premier refractory material for electric arc furnace linings where extreme temperatures and slag attack are severe. High-purity grades (ZMZ-98A/B, ZMZ-97A/B) provide maximum performance in the most demanding EAF applications. The exceptional slag resistance supports extended campaign life in aggressive EAF environments.

Steel Ladle Linings
Ladle linings require refractories that withstand both chemical attack and thermal cycling. MgO bricks provide balanced properties for ladle sidewall applications. High-purity grades offer maximum slag resistance for ladle slag lines and bottoms. The refractoriness under load supports performance at steelmaking temperatures.

Basic Oxygen Furnaces
Basic oxygen furnace applications require refractories with exceptional resistance to basic slag and high-temperature stability. MgO bricks provide the slag resistance and thermal stability needed for reliable BOF performance. The high bulk density supports durability in this demanding application.

Cement Rotary Kilns
Cement kiln applications benefit from MgO bricks' high-temperature capability and basic slag resistance. The refractory performance supports extended kiln lining life in the burning zone.

Industrial Furnaces and Vessels
Various industrial furnaces and vessels requiring high-purity magnesia refractories benefit from the comprehensive grade range.
